Construction Considered Essential Workers During the Coronavirus

The federal government recently released a list of critical infrastructure industries whose workers are “essential” and should continue normal work schedules during the coronavirus. The list identifies workers who conduct a range of operations and services that are essential to continue critical infrastructure viability. Illinois considers construction essential, too. According to Executive Order No. 12, Essential Infrastructure includes, but is not limited to…Building and Construction Tradesmen and Tradeswomen, and other trades including but not limited to plumbers, electricians, exterminators, cleaning and janitorial staff for commercial and governmental properties, security staff, operating engineers, HVAC, painting, moving and relocation services, and other service providers who provide services that are necessary to maintain the safety, sanitation, and essential operation of residences, Essential Activities, and Essential Businesses and Operations.
